General Information

Sara received her bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of Palermo (Italy) and her master’s degree in Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from the University of Trieste (Italy). During her studies, she gained a multi-disciplinary background, encompassing cell biology, biochemistry and biomaterials design/characterization.
Within the THERADNET network, Sara’s project aims to elucidate the contribution of metabolism to the acquired radioresistance of human breast cancer cells to radiotherapy. Of note, as resistance to treatment, stemness and poly-metastases are the major reasons of treatment failure in the clinics, the identification of precise metabolic changes induced by X-ray irradiation could, in the long term, lead to clinical applications aimed at preventing or even reversing these otherwise life-threatening events.
